Last night I worked for the first time since I was sick. It really wasn't too bad, but it could have been better. They were served brats, french fries, broccoli, and a brownie. Most of them liked the meal but a couple of them did want something else. I had not been there since Sunday, so they were all so happy to see me again and the feeling was definitely mutual. I missed all of their beautiful faces. Marjie said that she missed me so much and that she was really glad I was back. She is just the sweetest little thing. I also saw miss little Barb trying to wheel herself down to the dining room so I had to go help her by pushing her down to the dining room. She always says "I can get all the help I can." Then Mr. Harrold Waller told me I need to take all the chairs that are in the dining room and have a weenie roast over them because they are junk. He was fired up over how crappy our chairs were. I also had two new residents out in the dining room last night. It is always fun meeting new residents and getting to know them. One of them is a cute, little old lady that wears a little hat and is in a wheelchair. She is so cute, I love her. I get attached to old too easily, but I don't care because they are so cute. I just love working in a nursing home so much.

I worked last night right after I got back from the Botanical Gardens. I thought I was going to be late and I was worried, but I actually ended up getting there at 3:45 which is kind of early. I worked with Makenzie and Teya. We worked pretty well together and I was shocked. We got out sort of early and that is something that I like. The residents had a big spaghetti dinner last night and a lot of them were very impressed by it. I was glad that the kitchen served something that they liked since they are like all sick and do not want to eat anything. It makes me sad when they just will not eat and refuse anything you try giving them. I can usually talk them into getting at least a little bit in their system, but it does not always work that way. Joe, one of my favorite residents, refuse to let me give him anything but what they are serving. He may not like anything on his plate and still will eat it and refuse anything else. He says that I do enough for him and he would not want me to do anything more for him. He is just the sweetest little thing ever, even though I would not mind doing things for him. Another one of my favorites has been sick lately and just cannot remember anything. It makes me sad when she comes down for supper and thinks that it is breakfast time or when she cannot remember if she has been coming down the last few days. Last night I also discovered that I have the same exact ring as one of the residents. Her is at least thirty years old and mine is no more than three years old! Hers is all beat up and black, but you can tell that it is the same ring that I have. It melted my heart when she told me that her favorite little girl has the same ring that she does. There is never a dull moment when you work in a nursing home and I love that!

Week 6

Last night I worked until eight o'clock with Cariae Johnson. We work really well together and get the job done really fast. They had Alfredo for dinner and they really didn't like it too well. After they were all done eating I gave them all a little ice cream cup and they were loving that. I just love making them happy! I'm so ready for us to go play bingo with them because they love bingo so much! It's something for them to do in between meals, so it's something they enjoy. Hopefully, since I work out there they will let me request to take Mary Yuza down to bingo and sit with her. She loves bingo and she loves me. Last week she gave me a pack of gum because she said in such a good nurse. Although I'm not a nurse, I do help her out a lot and make sure she is happy! I do that with all of my residents to be honest, but some are more cheerful than others. I absolutely love working with old people so much. So getting to play bingo with them should be exciting for me! Love working in a nursing home!

Week 5

I worked last night with Makenzie and Destanie! It was a pretty fun night at work, if I do say so myself. The residents had some kind of salisbury steak and rice for dinner. It looked incredibly gross and most of the residents thought the same! They all loved the chocolate pudding I handed out for dessert though. It was such a slow, quiet day at Paris Healthcare last night though because most of them are tired or not feeling well. We had a resident get sick last night out of no where! The rest of them were practically falling asleep at the table waiting on their food. Usually they are all calling my name asking for ten different things to eat and something different to drink. Last night, they were all okay with the drinks I gave them and what was on the menu. That is the kind of nights I like, so I can just jump from table to table talking to each and every one of them. I love asking them how they are doing, so I can see their face light up and them get so excited to tell me. Mr. Barkley told me that he is trying to remember that everyone is different and not everybody acts the same way. He says that his son took him somewhere yesterday and all the people were being rude to each other and just bickering and he has not been around that kind of stuff before. So he was talking about how different it was and how it is okay to be different. I told him that that is exactly right and that he should always remember that! He is the cutest resident ever. I just love working around old people, I think I communicate better with them then I do my peers!
